
Cuban Revolution has great number of health professionals
Over 37 000 Cuban collaborators are providing medical assistance in 77 countries, said Vice Minister of Hygienic Epidemiology and Microbiology of Health Ministry Luis Estruch at the eight International Conference on Disasters that took place at Conventions Center in Havana.
The deputy minister stressed that after the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade was created on September 25, as an initiative of Commander Fidel Castro, 12 medical collaborations already there have been comprising doctors, nurses, technicians and first-aid workers in view of the appearance of earthquakes, floods, among other disasters in Guatemala, Pakistan, Bolivia, Indonesia, Belize, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, China, El Salvador, and Chile.
Estruch also talked about the particular case of Haiti, where 115 Cuban collaborators are currently providing their careful medical assistance in that beloved country devastated by a severe earthquake in January. The 66 percent of collaborators are Cuban doctors and the others are graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine from 22 nations.
“Cuba also helped to create nine medical schools abroad, while 240 professors are currently teaching in 15 countries, “Estruch said and affirmed that the country thanks to the Cuban revolution, while the Cuban health system is accessible for all Cuban citizens.
Estruch explained that there are 171 953 Cuban students currently studying medicine, dentistry, nursing degree, psychology at different Health Institutions, while over 23 000 280 young people from 105 countries and 123 ethnic groups are studying at the Latin American School of Medicine.
