
Radio Sancti Spiritus station is 65 years of broadcasting
Six decades and half of broadcasting are recalled when talking about the vitality of Radio Sancti Spíritus radio station, located in the province of Sancti Spíritus, which is part of the locals’ sprit.
It was on July 11, 1945 when the station, previously called National Radio CMHT, was created, and has been airing about events and other issues of life form its beginnings.
Since 65 years, professionals of great worth on communication, music even technique do their best to broadcast the reality of life in each show, portraying the every day lives of locals who keep their joy of living, despite their plight due to world economic crisis, natural disasters and portents of nuclear war.
Sancti Spíritus station is part of the old province, which was found 496 years ago. Past and present of the station are mixed together. The station has old phonographs, microphones and consoles. Radio professionals are included: Pedro Andres Naples, Chiffini, Legon Armando, Pedro de Paula and many other teachers of generations of radio workers.
Next, other communicators have worked at the radio, who should be also mentioned such us: Ernesto Valdés, Teresita Garcia Ruiz, Cary Lastayo, Orlando Abreu and Alfonso Torres. They represent symbolic voices from this station, which is identified nowadays as “contemporary within tradition.”
There are other professionals left, who remain in the anonymity and have taught generations of announcers, directors of shows, consultants and sound producers. They are part of every airing the audience gets.
The radio, an imperfect creation of human being, could achieve communicators feel more passion for art, being passion and art essential premises so that the journalist finds those events taking place at any spot of the city or the country side, or also the announcer is able to describe such events, makes the audience cry or laugh, live or die while listening his descriptions.
Precisely, Sancti Spiritus station was created 65 years ago, for it can recalls people and lives as well as the great events that have made this city special. Time has passed and the station keeps broadcasting in a magnificent way.
Today is a day of paying homage to the station through the strains of the immortal "Thinking", a troubadour song origin in this region to recall sorrows, open new worlds, and join them.
THE RADIO STATION AWARDS DISTINTION IN THE HEART OF CUBA
For its significant labor in favor of education and culture as well as having broadcast about great figures in arts and letters, CMGL Radio Sancti Spíritus provincial station was awarded the Song for City Distinction, the highest recognition given by the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) in the province, which was delivered by President of the Provincial Committee of UNEAC Edelmiro Bonachea Sixto Jimenez, in the occasion of holding the 65 anniversary of that station.
In the ceremony, which was chaired by First Secretary of Provincial Party Miguel Acebo Cortiñas, was also recognized the labor of 38 workers, with age of retirement and keep working at the radio. "Creative talent and dedication have performed the function of showing the people's daily life in the province," stressed Cortiñas, when the talked about staff’s work at the Radio Sancti Spiritus station.
The Provincial Committee of the Culture Workers Union has praised the role of the station in the promotion of the best cultural values of the territory. During the ceremony was presented the design of the new web site for the provincial radio station, whose working and design are based on indicators such as multimedia and hypertext, among other elements of the language within the network.
The system of Radio in Sancti Spíritus province comprises six stations: CMGL, Radio Sancti Spiritus (the main station), Radio Trinidad, Radio Vitral, Radio Jatibonico, Radio Fomento, the latter is a permanent tribute to the heroic guerrilla Ernesto Guevara.
