
President Fidel receives Moto Mendez Cuban medical Brigade
Comander Fidel Castro Ruz received on Tuesday evening Moto Mendez Cuban medical brigade, which carried out a psychological and genetic-general study in Bolivia.
On his speech addressed to doctors, the leader of Cuban Revolution termed tireless the medical staff’s work and stressed the courage showed when dealing with hard weather conditions. He affirmed that the most important thing was the example given to those Medicine graduates who just began to provide medical assistance in several countries.
Doctor Odalys Bravo Tellez, head of the Cuban brigade, gave details the Commander about the doctors’ work in the Latin American region, where 1 529 825 homes were visited and more than five millions people were interviewed. 82 087 residents have some disability.
Doctor Bravo also said that Moto Mendez brigade made by 213 Defectology specialists, Master’s degree on Genetic Advice, among others, had left for Bolivia on March 4 and stayed in the nine regions of the country, where they provided more than 10 000 genetic consultations; and doctors managed to visit 101 localities that are not registered on geographic maps. Doctor highlighted the Cuban authorities support as well the doctors’ mission in Bolivia.
Moto Mendez members were awarded a diploma by vice –minister of Health Roberto Gonzalez Martin, and they were given a copy of the book: “la Victoria estrategica” (Strategic Battle) by Fidel Castro, also signed by the author.
