Jose Machado Ventura visits Roberto Rodriguez Hospital in the municipality of Moron, Ciego de Avila
During his visit to the eastern province of Ciego de Avila, Jose Ramón Machado Ventura, First Vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers, called to be rational and efficient, and to see saving as a question of survival.
Accompanied by Jorge Luis Tapia, first secretary of the Communist Party in that province, the VP toured some health care facilities and spoke with some workers about the need of making a better use of equipment to maintain the quality of the services.
At the Roberto Rodriguez hospital, in the municipality of Moron, Machado visited some recently repaired wards and learned about the work carried out there to reorganize areas and make a better use of the staff, since only 50% of the available beds are occupied.
Machado recalled that under the current conditions of world crisis no-one can afford wasting; on the contrary, he said, we have to prepare ourselves even more to maintain excellent services with fewer resources.
In this regard, the Cuban leader suggested developing comprehensive seminars and language courses to increase the training of health technicians, so that they can offer their services in other parts of the world.
Machado, who is also a Politburo member, toured a factory of solar-powered heaters, with Chinese technology, soon to be into operation and destined to replace imports.
Ricardo Ulloa González, director of that factory, known as RENSOL, said that this new equipment are more efficient and cheaper than those of flat sheet, and that they will save the country an average of 1,200 dollars each.
The First Cuban VP also visited other industrial and agricultural programs in the province aimed at the production of food, like those of protected vegetable cultivation and production diversification at a cooperative of agricultural workers and new markets to offer food products to the population. The visit also included the Ceballos Industrial Citrus Processing Plant, where fruit concentrates and nectars are produced for national consumption and for export, and a line of mini-cartons, scheduled to start producing by the end of the year.
The visit also included the Indalecio Montejo Factory, a producer of tubes and beams of different diameters, which this year has contributed over 1,000 roof modules for houses in the country. During the tour, in which local leaders from the agricultural and health care sectors also participated, Machado reiterated the need for being objective regarding one’s work, to eliminate wastefulness and excessive paternalism, and create new sources of employment.
