Comander in chief exchanges with Cuban scientists on results of a possible nuclear war
Becoming immersed in his incessant battle to warn the world of danger of a possible nuclear war as well as persuading President Obama not to give the final order, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz held on Monday a meeting with Cuban scientists to discuss nuclear weapons and the danger of a nuclear war.
During two hours, the Revolution leader exchanged views with the scientists and made a lot of questions to Dr. Tomás Gutiérrez Pérez, General Director of the Institute of Meteorology, Engineer José Núñez Fidel Santana, President of the Nuclear Energy Agency and Advanced Technologies of CITMA, Colonel José Luis Navarro Marrero, head of the Department of Science and Technology of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, and Dr. Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, Scientific Advisor for Council of State.
Some issues were addressed at the meeting such us: Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the bombs containing uranium, plutonium and hydrogen, military nuclear capacity of great nations, the area of radioactivity caused by the outbreak of a nuclear bomb, according to its power, the sinking of the Russian nuclear submarine in 2000, that so-called "nuclear winter", among other interesting subjects.
Fidel recalled those days of October Crisis, a stage that led to make the agreement of sitting those missiles in Cuba from the ex Soviet Union because of the danger that lied ahead of Cubans and the whole world caused by errors of Khrushchev and Kennedy. "Kennedy himself was appalled of how close the war was," the leader said.
"We are not interested in having rockets or having a military base here. We only care about the image of the country. A Soviet military base would not help to maintain the image of the Revolution, and its power to positively influence in the region. So, why did we accept it? ...To us, it was very hard, but it was a question of internationalism”, said Fidel and remembered that meeting with the revolutionary leadership when he stated: "If we once expected that the socialist system sacrificed and fought for us, we also should be willing to make sacrifices for them."
That historical moment was used to analyze the current dangers based on nearly 25 000 nuclear devices, "Do not think it is a crazy?” the Cuban leader asked the scientists and added: In this small planet, just 100 bombs would be enough to cause a nuclear winter. That's not a thing for sane people. "
Fidel later noted: "It seemed that this would be the first war of the world, and the humanity only know about war. Since the man had a garrote on his hands, he began to provoke wars. All these arguments are wrong. That is why I am working harder to try to persuade people about danger. Who knew about this situation until just recently? Who was the first person that released the news? Who is in charge of all those media in the world?
"Everything depends on a man (Obama), not because he is powerful, but because he is the only one that can take the final decision. If he did not give the order to begin the war, everyone, even those millionaire people, would be grateful to him, and Israel also would do it, “Commander in Chief concluded his views, with the conviction that scientists also can help a lot in this battle of rising awareness the humanity of the serious risks.
