The event was part of the summer activities proposed by Radio Guines to mark the 91st anniversary of the birth of great singer, songwriter and bandleader Benny Moré, the 88th anniversary of Cuban Radio, and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the radio station (Radio Guines), and had the support of the main authorities in the territory.
The opening gala (August 24) was in charge of the local music group Jenny and Kache, which recently ended a successful tour of Egypt and will soon leave for the Republic of Oman. The special segment of that evening brought together the first prize winners of the event’s three previous editions: Gisel Gonzalez, Anai Cruz and Leyci Celada, who sang to love, hope and friendship.
On August 25th, the finalists went on stage to compete for the prizes of this year’s Cubadisco 2010, and those granted by Artex and the Iberian-American Center for the Ten-Syllable Verses and Improvised Verses. Each of the contestants interpreted a song identifying Cuba’s country music.
The Awards Ceremony took place on August 26. Laura García was the winner of the Grand Prize in the Interpretation category, with the Mexican theme Cucurrucucu paloma. Osnayvi Lorenzo (Quiero amanecer con alguien) walked away with First Prize, while Second and Third went to Hanier Fragata (A mi manera) and María Emilia Osorio (Y basta ya), respectively. The jury also granted a special mention and a mention, which went to the hands of José Luis Sánchez (El doctorado) and Yuriel Ortega (América), in that order.
The third and final day of the special segment was dedicated to classical music, with the presence of Jenni and Henry Falcón, and their performance of the piece The Phantom of the Opera excelled. The "Alexandria" prizes were also given that night, resulting from a survey carried out in the municipalities of southeast Havana among listeners of the local station, who selected the most popular programs, artists and journalists of Radio Guines
The prize of the Iberian-American Center was for Raúl Labastida and the theme Luna guajira; the Benny Moré Music Agency awarded the song Que viva Changó, interpreted by Yusleidys Valera; and the latter, along with Yordanys Sánchez, were the winners of the two prizes given by ARTEX, for Pueblo mío, Catalina.
For its part, Cubadisco (Cuba’s annual record fair and contest), dedicated this year to country music, coincided with the suggestion of the jury: the two prizes were for Osnaivy Lorenzo (Yo soy el punto cubano).
The jury was made up by music specialists from Cuban Radio and renowned composers and vocalists.
