Cuban Vice-president and Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés inaugurated on September 9 a modern radio and TV transmission tower on the outskirts of Trinidad, in the central province of Sancti Spiritus.
The new tower, located at La Vigia, around 160 meters above sea level, will guarantee high quality, reliable radio and television signals and will provide radio link services to other entities.
During his tour of the facility, Valdés, also a Politburo member and Minister of Computing and Communications, asked technicians about aspects related to the quality of services provided by the center.
The new communication tower replaces the one that had been temporarily installed in 2005, when Hurricane Dennis destroyed the old tower, cutting off the area of the national communications network.
The works included the placing of a 50-meter tower on a concrete foundation and the remodeling of premises for technological equipment.
Centers similar to that of La Vigia were completed earlier in the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Granma and Matanzas. Only one remains to be built (Ciudad de La Habana), with which, according Radio Cuba specialists, the system affected by the recent hurricanes that hit the island will be fully and efficiently operational.
