
Forecast of the Hurricane Paula path for the next five days
Overcast skies and light rains, accompanied with mild gusts of wind, were the result of the proximity of Hurricane Paula to the westernmost Cuban province of Pinar del Rio.
Weather Forecast Center specialist Alfredo Victorero told ACN News Agency that the maximum precipitations were reported in San Antonio Cape, Cuba´s westernmost point, with 114.7 milimeters, followed by the La Bajada area, in the same Guanahacabibes, con 77.8.
There were some interesting accumulates in Pinar del Río, 58,6 milimeters; Santa Lucía, 36,1 and Isabel Rubio, with 31,4, Victorero said.
Regarding the strenghetn of the winds, the meteorologist spoke of two gusts at San Antonio Cape: the first one on Wednesday at two PM of 69.7 km/h and 12 hours later a stronger one at 97 km/h, while the maximum sustained winds were of 72 km/h.
The northen coastal municipalities of this province are in the hurricane alarm phase, while the southern are in alert phase, while Paula moves at 7 km/h some 50 kilometers northeast San Antonio Cape.
In Cuba, as part of its Civil Defense system, there are four phases to a natural disaster: informative (when the possibility of a hurricane hitting Cuba is anticipated), alert (when that possibility increases), alarm (when the hurricane actually strikes) and recuperative (after the disaster has passed and work begins to repair the damage and reestablish normality).
