In the presence of some 40 Argentinean journalists from different media outlets, the Argentinean Friends of Cuba Association of Journalists (CAPAC) was founded in Buenos Aires on October 12.
After explaining the characteristics of the CAPAC, the president of the organization, prominent Argentinean journalist and writer Stella Calloni, highlighted the importance of fighting the fierce terrorist media campaigns designed to hide the accomplishments of the Cuban Revolution.
“We must stand up and do something to break the siege of manipulation and silence laid against Cuba,” urged Calloni, who added that Cuba has set an example of solidarity to other countries and “continues to resist and spread teachers and physicians the world over.”
For his part, journalist José Alberto Cabrera, secretary of the new association, read out the Buenos Aires Declaration, in which the CAPAC members demand the end of the US blockade against Cuba and freedom for the five Cuban Heroes incarcerated in the United States.
The document also sets out that "Cuba has been subjected to all kinds of aggressions by successive US administrations, which have included terrorist attacks and attempts to assassinate comrade Fidel Castro, biological warfare aimed at causing crops to fail, and other aggressions directly aimed at the Cuban people. The list is long and examples are countless."
On behalf of Cuba, the head of the Press Office of the Cuban Embassy in Argentina, Zulan Popa, thanked participants for their solidarity and referred to those journalists who have never visited Cuba and yet venture critical remarks against the island.
“I think they should visit Cuba and see how Cubans live, how they work day after day to build the Revolution. Cuba is a sovereign, independent country, and I think this is what bothers them," said the young diplomat who concluded pointing out that despite the increasing slanderous media campaigns there will be a revolutionary government in Cuba for a long time.
Sending their applications to the meeting -attended by Cuban Ambassador to Argentina Jorge Lamadrid- to become members of the association were colleagues from Chile and Panama and from the Argentinean provinces of Misiones, Neuquén, Jujuy, Córdoba, Chaco, Santiago del Estero, Chubut, Mendoza and San Juan.
The Argentinean Friends of Cuba Association of Journalists, the first of its kind in the world, is composed of journalists, social communicators and university students of related majors, all of them fully identified with the Cuban Revolution. Their main objective is to systematically spread the truth about Cuban reality and counteract anti-Cuba media campaigns, which in the long run harm all of Latin America.
