The Cuban iron and steel industry suffered $36.34 billion in losses from April 2009 to March 2010 because of the U.S. economic blockade of Cuba.
The most recent report to the UN General Assembly by Havana on the need to end the U.S. blockade said Cuba could have bought 12,349 motor pumps with that amount of money, which would have facilitated greater development in social works.
Also, Cuba could have bought 11,162 diesel engines to repair heavy equipment, or 1,953 buses, to improve transportation.
Official data said the blockade has caused more than $750 billion in material losses.
