International Community voted on October 26 against US genocide blockade of Cuba

Some permanent representatives at the UN General Assembly expressed their full support for the Cuban draft resolution that under the title “Necessity to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba,” was studied and approved on Tuesday during the 65th period of sessions of that international forum.

The Association of Caribbean States (CARICOM) condemned the US policy of interference with regard to Cuba and backed the resolution of condemnation presented by the island in the voice of Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.

Likewise, delegations from Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, Chile and other nations in Latin America supported the Cuban resolution. On that issue, the permanent representative of Uruguay asserted that the US blockade is contrary to the UN Charter, particularly to trade regulations.

On behalf of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, the Egyptian representative highlighted the disagreement of its members with the coercive methods used by the United States with respect to Cuba in spite of the international will and ignoring the plans of the United Nations.

The European Union also declared itself to be in favor of the Cuban resolution against the blockade, and in the voice of the Belgium representative described as extraterritorial the measures adopted with the implementation of laws like the Helms Burton and the Torricelli laws, which prevent European nations from holding normal exchanges and negotiations with the island.

For its part, Nicaragua expressed its acknowledgement to the dignity shown by Cuba for more than five decades and its confrontation of the blockade.  Cuba’s response is an example for mankind, stated the Nicaraguan diplomat, who also praised the island’s contribution to the social projects promoted by Nicaragua in its struggle against poverty and underdevelopment.

The world supports Cuba, we all understand, all except one country, (the United Sates). That’s the reason why Latin America and the Caribbean join their voices so the United States understands and rectifies its historic error, asserted the permanent Nicaraguan representative at the UN.

The international community, comprised of the Group of 77 plus China, the Non-Aligned Movement, the European Union, CARICOM, and the ALBA member countries, demanded the US government to put an end to the anachronistic measure (the commercial, economic and financial blockade) and urged to build a new world order in which talks in favor of peace prevail.

The resolution “Necessity to put an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United Sates against Cuba” was approved during the 65th period of sessions of the UN General Assembly by 187 votes in favor, 2 against and 3 abstentions.
