Raul Castro in the plenary session of the Cuban Workers Confederation
Cuban President Raul Castro assured the Revolution has great confidence in the workers and the union movement at the closing of the 86 Plenary of the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC) this Sunday.
Raul Castro pointed out that the only way to break dogmas, bad habits and taboos is by giving participation in the decisions to the people, led by the workers along farmers, which are the most revolutionary class.
He stressed on the need of union leaders to know the principles that govern economy, because they are determinant for a revolution to work properly.
Raul urged union leaders to play the same role historical leader Lazaro Peña did during the 13 CTC Congress in 1973, when he called on workers to renounce to some of their conquest achieved after the Revolution Triumph, because situation had changed and they were already the owners of the production means.
At that time, Peña proposed to abolish a law that, though it had been passed on good intentions, was not economically sustainable at the moment. The law stipulated that workers who had kept an exemplary conduct in their working life retired with full salary.
“But to defend these measures and explain them, the working class has to have knowledge and to be convinced of its importance for the survival of the Revolution, otherwise the country will face an economic disaster” Raul said.
The Cuban president emphasized that cadre must be demanding; that the tendency of some to cover faults must disappear; that people need to learn from mistakes, “since mistakes have to leave us, at least, the experience not to repeat them again”
Raul said Cuba is not copying any country’s economic model but updating its own, based in Cuba’s characteristics and without renouncing to build Socialism.
