Many expressions of solidarity with Cuba have been sent by way of the Twitter and Facebook social networks and details are given by Web sites in Cuba and news agencies in the world following the plane crash that took place on Thursday, as a consequence of which all 68 people on board died. The aircraft, pertaining to the AeroCaribbean Company, was covering the Santiago de Cuba-Havana route, and fell in Guasimal, 30 kilometers away from central Sancti Spíritus province.

Argentinean Foreign Minister Hector Timmerman pointed out on his twitter page that President Cristina Fernandez de Kirschner had ordered preparations for an aircraft to transport the Argentinean youngsters who died in the plane crash.

According to statements of residents in the area who witnessed the plane crash, published by the Escambray newspaper from Sancti Spíritus, the aircraft, after abrupt movements in the air, fell to the ground and immediately caught fire in a rural area difficult of access, densely covered by thorny shrubs, which required a great effort on the part of the rescue teams of the Ministry of the Interior participating in the rescue work.
