We’re aiming towards economic union between Cuba and Venezuela, asserted Raúl Castro during the meeting on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement between the two nations.
The meeting to mark the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and Venezuela, signed by President Hugo Chávez and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on October 30, 2000, served as a special framework to announce from Havana the 6th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), which will take place during the last two weeks in April, and that will have, as its central theme, the perfecting of the Cuban economic model.
The meeting of Cuban communists will take place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist nature of the Cuban Revolution and the Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs) victory, the announcement of which, although expected, was favorably surprising, made by Cuban President Raúl Castro, who underlined the significance of the moment the country is experiencing and the significance of the opportunity of adopting the new guidelines of the economic policy of the Party and the Revolution, the priorities of which are based on the country’s participation in the Bolivarian Alliance for The Americas (ALBA).
To work with swiftness, tirelessly, in the short, medium and long-term economic coordination, management and implementation for the achievement of the economic, social and political objectives promoted by the ALBA, is closely linked to the issues tackled on Monday between the heads of state of Cuba and Venezuela, who expressed their determination to continue with the current bonds with actions of high benefit for the two peoples.
We’re aiming towards economic union between Cuba and Venezuela, asserted Raúl during his speech at Havana’s Convention Center, and ratified that a new type of relations is built with more rationality in joint projects, an important step towards the current objective of complementing each other economically, an objective based on a better use of the infrastructure, the approval of the two countries, and above all on the willingness of our peoples.
During his speech, Raúl pointed out that the progress achieved in these 10 years of the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and Venezuela is significant, which has had, among its most favored sectors, public health, education, sports, agriculture, energy saving, mining, computing and telecommunications and the comprehensive training of leaders, among others.
Many adversities caused by external factors have opposed our revolutionary projects and our projects of emancipation, but nothing has stopped the development of these bonds, stressed the Cuban president, because –he said- the basis of our relations is mutual cooperation and benefit, according to social and economic development, the pillar of fraternity between the two countries.
In moments in which clashes between reactionary and conservative sectors depending on an exploitative political model intensify in Latin America, revolutionary and progressive forces committed to justice and equity in the region move forward. In this context, pointed out Raúl, relations between Cuba and Venezuela become the best example of how bonds between peoples should be, amid a difficult international situation in which political and economic instability prevail, also with serious threats for world peace.
