Fidel CastroLeader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, spoke with student representatives at the Havana Palace of Conventions today in honor of International Students´ Day.

A message from Fidel sent to Cuban students for International Students´ Day will also be read tonight during the daily Round Table television program.

On November 17th, 1939, the resistance of Czech students in the streets of Prague against the Nazi occupation inspired the establishment of an anti-Nazi student coalition.

Then, in 1941, November 17th was officially declared International Students’ Day by the International Students Council in London, which became the starting point of the founding of the International Union of Students - IUS.
