Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, spoke with student representatives at the Havana Palace of Conventions today in honor of International Students´ Day.
On November 17th, 1939, the resistance of Czech students in the streets of Prague against the Nazi occupation inspired the establishment of an anti-Nazi student coalition.
Then, in 1941, November 17th was officially declared International Students’ Day by the International Students Council in London, which became the starting point of the founding of the International Union of Students - IUS.
Fidel’s message also coincides with the fifth anniversary of his historic speech at the Main Hall of the University of Havana on November 17, 2005.
