Just 27 years after the Cuban radio’s emergence on August 22th, 1922, Radio Moron station, in the central province of Ciego de Avila, was established on November 19th, 1949. Since its inception, the station was considered a symbol for Moron city by past and present generations.
Despite inventions like radio, television and movie seem to be replaced by modern technologies, Radio Moron could be an exception to the rule, if taking into account the great significance the station has for over 60, 000 listeners from the city and other nearby regions.
A recent evidence was the great attendance at the opening ceremony to celebrate the Radio Moron’s 61th anniversary at the Reguero Cultural Complex, an emblematic facility located at the Historical City Center.
The ceremony began with the audience’s standing ovation and under dimmers and after Moron’s rooster crowing, another city symbol, melodies identifying the station were listened at the Cultural Complex. During the ceremony Arquimedez Romo Perez, an outstanding radio announcer and National Radio Award holder was honored for his 60 years on the radio.
A gala was performed as an imaginary tour over the six decades of Radio Moron’s existence, making stops at the stars shows such as “Meridiano Campesino”, “Emulacion Musical”, “En una Esquina de Mexico”, “A las Cinco y Treinta pm”, and the newscasts, real milestones impossible to ignore at this special commemoration.
Georgina Gómez Calderón, a union leader at the station, officially opened the Eleventh Municipal Radio Festival. The awards ceremony will be held on November 19th, including a gala at the San Carlos Theater, in Moron city.
