The Minister of Health and Sports of Bolivia, Nila Heredia Miranda, who is heading a Bolivian delegation to Havana, highlighted the Cuban cooperation in Bolivia aimed at implementing a unique health system to guarantee medical assistance for all alike. She stressed that the Cuban experience and outcomes in the medical field make it a reference for useful knowledge in pursuit of attaining a better community program.
The Minister conceded a special significance to the professionals´training at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), based on humanist precepts thus promoting the projection of future doctors closely linked to health promotion and disease prevention.
She specified there is an expectation to count on the more than four thousand Bolivian students who are undergoing this kind of course, basically for the benefit of services for disabled persons who were taken in a census this year with the Cuba´s assistance.
She announced that in Bolivia a second stage is under way which is related to the creation of rehabilitation facilities in the most accessible areas to the population, and this possibility of having a qualified support in this task saves many years of work, added.
As part of the Miracle Operation, ophthalmology , more than 400 thousand Bolivians were operated on since October 2005, and about 100 thousand patients from neighboring countries, including Brazil, Uruguay and Peru, the minister stressed.
Currently more than 38 000 Cuban doctors are providing health care in 77 countries and ELAM has graduated nearly 11 300 under this noble
project designed by the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, 11 years ago, which
has 22 faculties along the nation and also the training curriculum is used in other countries.
During her stay in Cuba, the Bolivian Minister of Health and Sports of Bolivia
also toured the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, where she witnessed Cuba's advances in this field, the ELAM and other health institutions.
