Cuban President Raúl Castro called for economic efficiency while asserting that the debates of the 6th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party, to be held in April in Havana, will concentrate on the solution of problems of national economy and on the fundamental decisions that will lead to the updating of the Cuban economic model.

Governed by the concept that unity is encouraged and achieved in the widest socialist democracy and in the open discussion of all issues with the people, no matter how sensitive, the 6th Congress will be a meeting of all PCC members and the entire population, which will participate jointly and actively in the adoption of the guidelines of the new economic policy of the Party and the Revolution, stated Raúl while announcing the long-awaited meeting of Cuban communists.

During the last session of the National Assembly of the People’s Power (Parliament) held on August 1st, Raúl said that the unity of revolutionaries around the Party is our most important strategic weapon, which has made it possible to get where we have and will allow us to continue perfecting socialism in the future. This was recalled by the Cuban President in the presence of delegations from Cuba and Venezuela met to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement between the two countries.

While addressing participants, Raúl explained that the draft guidelines of the economic and social policy will be published immediately and discussions will begin at grass roots level of the Party, and in every community and workplace on the island, a process that will cover the months of December, January and February, to then incorporate in March the suggestions and opinions emanating from the analyses made in the different spheres of the population.

As expressed in his closing speech on April 4 during the 9th Congress of the Young Communists League (UJC), the economic battle is today, more than ever, the main task, since the sustainability of our social system depends on it, hence that work with leaders is also decisive, highlighted Raúl.

After the 6th Congress, the country will carry out the First Conference of the Cuban Communist Party, as established by the statutes of the political organization, with the purpose of tackling other issues of internal nature that will not be analyzed during the Congress and need to be perfected in the light of these 50 years of Revolution, pointed out the Cuban President.
