The film La vida util by Uruguayan Federico Veiroj won the Coral, Award to the best film at Havana’s International Film Festival that concluded Sunday. In a press conference at the Hotel Nacional members of the jury announced that the film won another Coral for Best Soundtrack by Raul Locatelli and Daniel Yafalian.
The second and third awards went to Post Mortem by Chilean Pablo Larrain, and Las buenas hierbas, by Mexican Maria Novaro, in that order.
Post Mortem also won Coral for the best script, best actress and best actor; the film received the award granted by the International Federation of Cinematographic Press as well.
In addition to sweeping collateral awards, Cuban film Jose Marti: the Eye of the Canary won filmmaker Fernando Perez the Coral for Direction and received the SIGNIS Prize. Erick Grass and Giselle Monzon won the Coral for best art direction and poster, respectively.
Los bañistas by Cuban Carlos Lechuga won the award for the best short-feature film while Memoria cubana by Brazilian Alice de Andrade and Cuban Ivan Napoles won the third prize in the category of documentary.
The jury for fiction movies granted a mention to Casa vieja (Old House) by Cuban Lester Hamlet, and a special award for animation to Nikita Chama Boom, by Juan Padron, also from Cuba.
Sambatown by Cadu Macedo won the Coral in the animation category, while Pecados de mi padre, by Nicolas Entel, in Documentary.
In the Operas prima category, the Coral was awarded to film Alamar, by Cuban Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio , while Clever by Uruguayans Federico Borgia and Guillermo Madeiro took it for the best unpublished script.
Las Acacias by Pablo Giorgelli, and Chamaco by Cuban Juan Carlos Cremata won the ALBA Cultural Prize which provides $60,000 for the completion of the awarded projects.
The Coral for the best edition went to Eliane Katz for the film Por tu culpa, and in
photography the award went to Damian Garcia for the Mexican movie Chicogrande.
The jury granted the Special Prize to La mirada invisible by Diego Lerman, while Santiago Chavez and Judith de Leon took the Coral for best Original Music on Las buenas hierbas.
