The National Assembly of the People’s Power (Parliament) opened its sessions on Wednesday in Havana with the presence of Cuban President Raul Castro.

Assembled in the morning for a plenary session, deputies analyzed the country’s economic results in 2010 and the plan proposed for the coming year.

In the afternoon, debates will focus on a proposal for the updating of the island's tax system, among other topics.

On Tuesday, the 12 standing committees of the Parliament met to review the tasks carried out this year and approved the plans they will execute in 2011.

Likewise, the committees were briefed on and discussed the draft of the State Budget for the coming year, corresponding to their respective spheres.
