The Vice-president of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Planning and the Economy, Marino Murillo, addressed participants in the National Assembly of the People’s Power (Parliament), attended by President Raúl Castro, and assessed with deputies the economic results of 2010 and measures adopted with a view to the implementation of the tax policy in response to the increase of self- employment.

During the review of the 2010 economic results, Murillo underlined that despite the difficulties faced by the country, the island’s economy experienced slight advances in its financial management; however, he stated, we must improve the efficiency of our management, based on the implementation of measures to strengthen our results.

He urged to meet tax payments and give the National Office for Tax Administration (ONAT) the powers it requires, particularly in these crucial moments of self-employment. He said that the ONAT this country must have is not the one we have today, because we gave it treasury tasks and the collection of payments for electrical appliances. The first thing we did was taking away from it the functions it was given to meet the objectives it was created for.

Taxes in energy transactions, food production and their value to give a boost to the nation’s economy, the consolidation of accounts receivable and accounts payable, the collection of payments for the domestic appliances given to the population in compliance with the Energy Revolution Program, and the real and specific functions of enterprises in the public service sector, were topics tackled by deputies in their analysis of the 2010 economic results.

The priorities of the government’s "Economic and Social Plan" for next year is the main issue bringing delegates together in the plenary session of the Sixth Ordinary Period of Sessions of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly of the People’s Power.
