Parliamentarians Discuss Draft Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy Print E-mail

The over 430 participants in the second day of meetings of the National Assembly of the People’s Power discussed the Draft Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution. Assembled for a plenary session, attended by President Raul Castro, Parliament President Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, and representatives of the state and government, they analyzed the main aspects concerning the nation’s social, economical and political reality.

 

The Vice-president of the Council of Ministers and Minister for Planning and the Economy, Marino Murillo Jorge, presented the Draft Guidelines, and explained the whole process of the program to update the Cuban economic model, currently analyzed by all workers in the country, and that will be examined during the 6th Congress of the Communist Party, scheduled for April, 2011.

Murillo made a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the Global Crisis of Capitalism and the macroeconomic guidelines introduced in Cuba to confront the unfavorable effect of the crisis worldwide.

The deputies discussed issues related to food production, the diversity and plurality of services to the population, the efficiency of budgeted units, the work of agricultural entities, the income of the self-employed, the distribution of productions, and trade and market diversification.

The need for a rational use of credits and the implementation of an adequate policy in relation to expenditures, were topics tackled by participants in the plenary session of the Cuban Parliament. In this regard, Murillo asserted that today’s credits are the debts of tomorrow, while explaining the Guidelines dealt with to achieve economic integration.

Investments as a response to the needs for national development, the efficiency of the socialist state enterprise, and deficiencies in the organization of the investment process, were among other issues discussed by deputies during the analysis of the Draft Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution.

Other topics assessed by participants in the second day sessions of the National Assembly of the People's Power (Parliament) were those related to population aging, and the efficiency of public services and the creation of consumer goods.
