Cuba defends the right to live, peace and solidarityA lot of ink still needs to be used to write about the hypocritical handling of the issue of human rights when it comes to destabilize countries that are inconvenient to the interests of Atlantic powers.

This has became particularly important in the last year, particularly at the end of 2009, when President Barack Obama, in his speech of acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, repeated "the West against the rest of the world” crusade, lifting the white man’s bundle as an excuse to approve budgets for wars breaking all historic records and to increase the number of his troops in Afghanistan.

But let’s review, step by step, some of the "human rights" shown by the dominant countries of the world while pointing an accusing finger at those who do not submit to their interests or not are part of their group:

Political Adaptation

The U.S. political system is designed so that the two main parties, among which there are no fundamental differences, alternate in power.

The success of a candidate depends on his or her available funds, due to the mercantile nature of electoral contests.

The method for presidential elections allows a candidate to the White House to win without the majority of popular votes.

Abstentionism and unpopularity

Abstention in the United States is, on average, 30 per cent, for reasons like apolitical stance, distrust of politicians, the carrying out of the electoral process, and complexities in the registration of voters.  In addition, a president can govern with 31 percent popularity.

EU: Participation of the People?

In Europe, the participation of the people in debates and decisions on national or European issues is virtually nonexistent. Citizens are increasingly alien from the centers of development and adoption of legislation. The European Parliament has no full powers, because laws are adopted by way of co-decision between the European Commission and the Parliament, where the first one often imposes its criterion.

The method of appropriation of the Lisbon Treaty by way of parliamentary approval and not by popular referendum is a clear example of the lack of democracy and real freedom.

Exclusive Prerogatives

The high rates of abstention in European elections are an indicator of the apathy and lack of confidence in the political system in which the nomination of candidates for elections at various levels is an exclusive prerogative of party leaderships.

Restrictions, protectionism and other economic measures of the European Union evidence inequalities and human rights violations of countries and with respect to other nations of the world and Europe itself.

Abstentionism in general elections
in countries of the EU

Romania (2008): 60%

France (2007): 39%

United Kingdom (2005) 38%

Czech Republic (2006): 35%

Spain (2008): 25%

Germany (2005): 22%

Information at the Service of War

The militaristic policy of U.S. administrations is supported by the media, which, along with academic and research centers are responsible for "preparing" the public for military intervention wherever the groups of power associated with the Military Industrial Complex decide.  Once aggressions begin, the role of the press is to blame the opponent and hold it responsible for collateral damage.

Internet: Consumerist Indoctrination

The denied commercialism of American society turns the Internet into an ideal tool for materialistic indoctrination. Publicity made from the psychological modeling of consumers covers over 90 percent of the Network’s content, reducing its potential for information and education.

Lack of Protection of Children

In Europe, the privatization of education and health has accelerated the lack of protection of children and youth. Statistics provided by UNICEF omit realities of illiteracy or sub-education and the real inequalities that exist for the different ethnic groups to access the various teaching levels. A developed nation like Germany has admitted up to 6.3 percent of illiterates of over 15 years of age.

Exemplary Allies

Human rights advocates in Israel and in the occupied Palestinian territories are the object of threats, violent attacks, stigmatization, restrictions on freedom of movement, ill treatment and prolonged arbitrary detention in the framework of administrative detention orders.

It has been recommended to the government of Israel to respect freedom of association, expression and worship of migrant workers and to refrain from violating their rights with selective arrests.

Politicizing Emigration

The US aggressive policy against the island and the use for this purpose of the migratory issue is the main obstacle to the normalization of relations between the Cuba and the migration, because the Revolution has been forced to adopt defensive measures to try to maintain an orderly and controlled migratory movement since the early days of the Revolution, when murderers, thieves and human rights violators who made a fortune on the island fled and were welcomed in the U.S.
