Cuban songwriter and singer Silvio Rodriguez finished his tour in the United States with an emotional concert in the city of Orlando, Florida. The audience sang all the singer’s songs. There were over 100 people, most of them elderly, from Miami.
Rodriguez gave his concert at Orlando Performing Arts Center. He started with his song “Angel de Rocío”. He later sung others included “Papalotes”, “Sueño Con serpientes”, “Corazon desangrado”, “Sueño Del Rocio”. The singer also dedicated the song “Cancion al Elegido” to the five Cuban prisoners in the United States, which sparked off a standing ovation.
“Thanks for attending the concert and sharing a while with me”, said Rodriguez with pleasure, while over 2 000 people were shouting in favor of the Cuban revolution.
Reportedly, a hundred of extremist demonstrators from Miami came straight the concert, but they stayed outside the concert room. Among the ex-political prisoners attended the event included the 70-years old elderly Ignacio Cuesta, who expressed publicly against Silvio Rodriguez in Orlando: “Freedom first, culture later”. He was a Cuban prisoner over 30 years before coming to Miami.
The songwriter and singer stressed that after 30 years, the audience has given him a warm welcome during all his performances on June, as if he was traveling to any other place in the world, and he really appreciated it.
From the political point of view, Silvio Rodriguez said that lifting the commercial blockade imposed by the United States government would trigger a positive change in Cuba; and he made it clear that Cubans do not accept a political change in the country, because they are awarded of socialism has guaranteed social justice, translated into health and education for free, even on harsh conditions of a third- world country and under US blockade.
