PORT-AU-PRINCE, December 7 (PL).— The Fourth Cuba-CARICOM Summit, which is set to take place next December 8 and 9, 2011, was the subject of a radio program at the Kiskeya Radio Station in Haiti.

Radio host Veronica Dorcine Michel and Cuban diplomat official Carmen Maury talked about the ties between Cuba and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). They also spoke about the summit that is going to be held in Trinidad and Tobago in the coming days.

During the broadcast, host and guess talked about the organization founded in 1973. CARICOM succeeded the West Indies Federation and the Caribbean Free Trade Association (Carifta) in the attempt to integrate Caribbean countries.

CARICOM was set to politically and economically integrate the small island states of the Caribbean. Cuba and the Caribbean nations established diplomatic ties on December 8, 1972, later strengthened by the creation of CARICOM.

On this date Cuba established ties with Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, something that defied the isolation policy promoted by the United States.
 
One of the main outcomes of this organization is the raising the living standards of country members through a series of mutually beneficial collaboration agreements.

Finally, it was ratified during the radio airing the will of the Caribbean nations to stand united to effectively face the challenges of a more complex and unequal world.
