Jacob Zuma Sends Message of Solidarity with the Cuban Five

The President of South Africa and the ANC, Jacob Zuma, said that his party will continue to support the Cuban cause in the struggle against the US blockade and for the liberation of the Cuban Five.

With regard to Cuba, Zuma acknowledged the presence of a Cuban delegation of the Young Communist League (UJC) attending the celebrations for the 98th anniversary of the ANC party. Zuma noted that one of the members of this group was the daughter of Rene Gonzalez, one of the Cuban Five unfairly imprisoned in the United States, and he asked the public to support their cause.

The declaration read by the president includes the plan of action to be followed by the party in 2010. Cuba, he said, remains a priority for South Africa’s foreign policy.

The ceremony took place in the city of Kimberly and was attended by 35,000 members of the Tripartite Alliance and its leaders.
