The nations with the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas (ALBA) agreed in Venezuela to consolidate regional integration and sovereignty to build the road towards socialism.
At the closing session of the IX Summit of the regional bloc, which took place in the Venezuelan capital, the heads of state and Government of Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Venezuela confirmed their purposes by means of the document titled “ The Caracas Manifesto, Consolidating the New Independence”.
According to the forum, the efforts underway by ALBA members are encouraged by the independence struggles initiated 200 years ago, and by the will and legacy of their heroes.
In the document, the leaders considered that the achievement of their aims includes reaching justice and liberating themselves from foreign intervention and submission to imperial mandates.
They also expressed their decision of fostering the struggle in favor of human rights, the environment, and building a solid and independent economy by means of initiatives such as the Sucre – a payment instrument used for banking transactions – Grand-national companies and the ALBAS’ Bank.
The eight member nations agreed to further develop programs of health, education and special attention to impaired persons in an effort to unify this comprehensive project.
The Caracas manifesto clearly showed the necessity for governments to foster links among social movements and create the Council of Social Movements.
The declaration stresses the need to draw up a plan of political actions to denounce hypocrisy and double standard showed by United States and some European nations in international relations.
