Lawyers for Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, complained Tuesday that their client's rights have been violated in prison in Britain over the last week.
Lawyer Mark Stephens said Assange has not been able to receive mail since his arrest on an international warrant issued by Sweden, and he is constantly monitored by infrared cameras.
According to Stephens, his client has been prevented from receiving hundreds of letters, including legal ones, as well as other documents sent to the Wandsworth prison, where he is being held.
Lawyers for the founder of the controversial website, which has released thousands of classified U.S. documents, were to appear in a London court on Tuesday to ask again for Assange to be released on bail.
They will try to prevent the extradition of the 39-year-old Australian journalist to Sweden, and to refute the charges against him in Sweden of alleged sexual harassment and rape.
Assange's defense lawyers warned of a possible plot between Swedish authorities and the U.S. government to hand over the Australian journalist to Washington after his possible extradition to Sweden.
