raul-y-kenneth-kaundaThe President of Cuba's Councils of State and Ministers, Army General Raul Castro held talks on Thursday with Kenneth David Kaunda, the first president of the Republic of Zambia, who is paying a visit to the island.

Granma daily newspaper reported that Raul and Kaunda recalled key aspects relevant to the historic relations between Cuba and Africa, and between the island and Zambia in particular.

Kaunda, one of the founding fathers of African independence, expressed his interest in strengthening bilateral links every passing day, as it corresponds to relations between sister nations.

diosdado-cabelloThe president of the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, arrived Thursday, in Havana, on an official visit.

Cabello was welcomed by Cuban deputy foreign minister Rogelio Sierra at Havana's Jose Marti international airport.

parlatino-logoCommissions of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) are addressing issues of regional interests, such as healthcare and security, during sessions Thursday and Friday in this capital city.

The sessions are taking place at the centrally located National Hotel as regional parliamentarians look for the promotion of sanitary actions with stronger and more efficient impact on the social behavior of citizens. They are also exchanging views on urban security, terrorism and organized crime.

Cuba is again hosting the Parlatino sessions as a way to honor its compromise with the regional entity, as part of which the Caribbean nation undertakes different commitments.

Solidarity Order Bestowed upon Kenneth KaundaKenneth Kaunda, former President of Zambia (1964-1991) and a well-known African anti-colonialist leader, received on Tuesday in this capital the Solidarity Order given by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.

Esteban Lazo, member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the National Assembly of the People's Power, presented the award to the 89 year-old professor and politician, in a ceremony held at the Jose Marti Memorial located at Havana's Revolution Square.
