CELAC in Cuba

They’ve transcended some positions of member nations. For example, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, announced that his country brings proposals to continue turning the region into a zone of peace: “We have an agenda to continue turning to Latin America and the Caribbean in a great area peace without nuclear weapons, without threats of war, peace zone, the dreams of El Libertador junction zone, area independence.”

Management of Cuba in the CELAC

During its tenure in 2013 as head of the CELAC, Cuba has had a busy schedule of approach to states and regional blocs in other continents such as Russia, China, Japan, South Korea and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.

Also developed sectorial meetings on education , poverty eradication , health, culture , reducing illiteracy , nuclear disarmament , migration, cooperation , science and technology , risk management and natural disasters , energy, family farming , youth employment and tariff preferences.

Also in its capacity as president pro tempore, Cuba presented on behalf of the integration block positions of Latin American and Caribbean in both the 67 and 68 sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

And the August 6, 2013 Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla addressed the Security Council on behalf of the CELAC. “The history of Latin America and the Caribbean has changed. We have equipped with instruments that allow us to integrate, cooperate and discuss issues among ourselves issues. We intend to develop, to live in peace, protect human dignity and preserve our culture, “he said at that time the chief diplomat of the Cuba  .

How to react to external realities?

In terms of the global geopolitical landscape of today, the crisis of credibility of the United States, the European decline and changing economic model of China, left their influences in this integrative effort.

One of the clearest analyses on it was written a few days ago by the Argentine diplomat and economist Carlos Chacho Alvarez, for whom global interdependence, dissolve away as identity, challenges us to more clearly outline our uniqueness. That joint is necessary, very hard, strategic patience and sense of belonging, our very different sub-regions and even in many cases divorced each other.

From that certainty required increasingly finding matches , coordinating the efforts of the various sub regional organizations and the update to the institutional architecture sometimes a little erratic , which is being built in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The challenges …

CELAC is an organization that strengthens its aim of integrating sovereignty Americas and builds common alternatives for their peoples, on the basis of bridges connecting socially, culturally and economically, despite the political and ideological differences.

Continue on this idea, with the contribution of the great Summit in Havana, is both the most colossal and exciting challenge.
