Decorated Cuban journalist in Ecuador

 

At a ceremony held at the headquarters of the legislature, members of the South American nation was handed to Martinez Pires the decoration National Assembly Dr. Vicente Rocafuerte to Social Merit.

According to the official decision issued by the president of the unicameral parliament, Gabriela Rivadeneira, this is recognition to a prolific career of service characterized by a commitment to social causes.

The text highlights the outstanding work as a journalist, diplomat, MP and Chair, roles from those who always defended the need to articulate an inclusive and participatory agenda to promote the integral development of peoples.

For its part, the legislator Maria Augusta Street Martinez stressed that Pires has supported and accompanied all the time struggles of the Ecuadorian people.

“In the darkest moments of our political life, Ecuadorians revolutionaries always knew that we had an open Radio Habana Cuba (Martinez Pires station where since 1973) microphone,” she said.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the honoree said he was happy and honored because “there are many years of relationship with Ecuador”.

He recalled that reached this South American nation in 1960 as a diplomat, and has subsequently returned systematically in various roles, but always with the premise of promoting the relationship in both countries.

“That stays here in my younger years as a diplomat, was crucial, was consolidating my revolutionary faith. I also met many great figures like the painter Oswaldo Guayasamín and writer Benjamín Carrión” he explained.
