Dai Quang praised the achievements of the island, especially as regards foreign policy which, he added, has seen the prestige of Cuba in the international arena steadily grow, and will eventually lead to the total elimination of the U.S. blockade.
Referring to bilateral relations, the President reiterated the gratitude of the Vietnamese Party, government and people for the huge support provided by Cuba throughout the country’s struggle for national independence and during its socialist construction.
Every Vietnamese recalls the historic phrase “For Vietnam, we are ready to give even our own blood,” expressed by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, Dai Quang noted, who has been in office since last April 2.
Meanwhile, Valdés also congratulated the President on the results of the 12th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), having shortly after met with CPV General Secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong.
He noted that relations between the two nations have a very special character and highlighted the visit by President Truong Tan Sang to Cuba in September 2015 as an example of the high level reached in bilateral ties.
According to PL, Valdés added that the experience and results of the struggle and efforts of the Vietnamese renewal process over the past 30 years are very important in the updating of the Cuban economic model.
He also expressed gratitude for the assistance provided to Cuba for the production of rice and other grains, as well as Vietnam’s support in the struggle against the U.S. blockade.
Further detailing the ties between the two countries, Valdés stated that following the congresses of their respective parties, the conditions have been created to take relations to a higher level, including economic and commercial ties.
He recalled that the celebration of the 34th session of the Cuba-Vietnam Joint Intergovernmental Committee is scheduled for later this year, which will allow both sides to explore new ways to increase their ties in these fields.
He also extended an invitation to the Vietnamese President to visit the island, which would be highly significant and represent an important opportunity to further strengthen relations at the highest level.
Following his meeting with the Vietnamese President, Valdés was received by the CPV Secretary General, Nguyen Phu Trong, who he congratulated on his re-election and thanked for the information provided on the 12th CPV Congress, held in January, by Hoang Binh Quan, head of the CPV Foreign Relations Committee, during a subsequent visit to Havana.
On Sunday, June 19, the Cuban vice president also held official talks with Pham Minh Chinh, a member of the Political Bureau and chairman of the Organizing Commission of the CPV Central Committee.
Accompanied by the Cuban Ambassador to Hanoi, Herminio López, Valdés paid tribute to Cuban national hero José Martí, and met with members of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association and the Vice President of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations, Vu Thi Hai.
