During her speech at the 32nd regular session of the Human Rights Council, Rodriguez stressed that her country has ratified in full, the commitments agreed in the historic World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and other related Intolerance.
She also expressed her country’s willingness to continue implementing the National Program of Activities of the International Decade for People of African Descent.
Cuba’s strong policies and accomplishments at national and international level against racial discrimination and the priority given to confront the remnants of discriminatory prejudices that still exist, have been widely documented.
The diplomat stressed that the fight against this scourge, in addition to beiing based on a solid constitutional and legal basis, has held a “properly hierarchical place in the policy and practice of my country, due to the importance of the issue that is linked to the irrepressible wish to achieve an increasingly full and fair society.”
She also referred to the importance of focusing on the challenges that should be faced in the fight against racial discrimination: drawing up policies to resolve problems and strengthening international cooperation in a world in which equality, mutual respect and social justice prevail.
