Cuba to Host International Event on Gender Violence

National Sexual Education Center (Cenesex) director Mariela Castro detailed the features of the event in a press released on Wednesday, saying that the event will deepen understanding of gender violence, prostitution, the traffic of people and other aspects of gender violence.
The aim is to implement national strategies to promote understanding, prevent crimes linked to gender violence and prostitution and to plan programs to transform the environment linked with sex tourism.
The event will be held between January 23rd to 25th, with a similar simpossium being held in Havana in 2013 as an antecedent, in which all these aspects will be debated from a scientific point of view.
‘From the 2013 event, many of the topics that were discussed, will be debated in this edition, because they are issues which are still current; when a person becomes merchandise, he or she remains deprived of all his or her rights and only remains subjected to the law of supply and demand,’ said the director of Cenesex.
The 2nd International ‘Berta Cáceres in Memoriam’ Symposium on gender-based violence, prostitution, sex tourism and traffic of persons, will include both official and institutional delegations from Ecuador, Canada, Germany, Nicaragua, Guatemala and South Africa, among other countries.
