Cuba Promotes International Water Exchange

China’s Environment Minister, Wang Hong, stated that there is an urgent need to increase understanding efforts to establish a new era of global water governance. This is an increasingly deficient good that threats the development aspirations. The access to reliable and affordable liquid supply, along with adequate sanitation services, improves standard of living, expands local economies, promotes job creation and greater social inclusion, experts recalled yesterday in the first day of the 2nd International Convention on Water Resources, Cubagua 2017.

UN Resident Coordinator in Cuba, Myrta Kaulard, stated that this international convention is commendable for its integration vision of the challenges associated with climate change, including extreme droughts.

Specialists from 17 nations have been participating in the event. The 1st Workshop on Integrated Watershed Management, the 13th International Conference of Hydraulic Engineering and the 9th International Seminar on Integral Water Use, have being simultaneously holding at the Conference Center in this capital.

Cubagua 2017, which will conclude on Friday, March 24th, also opened yesterday a Technical Business Symposium at Pabexpo fairgrounds, with several exhibitions of products and technologies, presented by 63 companies from 18 countries.

The Convention will analyze today some issues such as environmental education, methodologies for assessing water potential in watersheds, particular experiences in drought mitigation, waste treatment and vulnerability studies in coastal areas.
