Documentary Rendezvous in Cuba calls for 20th edition in 2023

The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic) announced the 20th edition of the Santiago Alvarez in memoriam International Documentary Film Festival, to be held from March 3 to 8, 2023.Documentary cinema is a film genre that deals with all spheres of the future of mankind, while pointing out the central theme of the event, dedicated to demonstrate the mobilization capacity of this type of productions.

In that sense, the festival will screen a sample of the seventh independent documentary art of the United States, accompanied by filmmakers, personalities and directors of companies linked to the audiovisual industry, in order to show the Cuban and international public the evolution of this medium.

For the 2023 edition, the event will bring to the big screen “political, cultural and social works that identify the reality of the world around us and the commitment of the genre with the welfare of humanity”, from the diversity of styles and visions of filmmakers.

The official competition will accept proposals created after 2016 from any country, spoken or subtitled in Spanish, as well as projects of works, with their synopsis and a detailed description of the treatment.

The jury will award the Santiago Álvarez Grand Prize, prizes to the three first places and other awards in the specialties of direction, screenplay, editing, photography, sound design, best Opera Prima and teamwork.

In parallel, several film cycles will take place in theaters in Santiago de Cuba, Havana and other territories, while the calendar will also include conferences and theoretical seminars given by important figures of the genre worldwide.
