Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Monday received the island’s team that finished among the big four in the 5th World Baseball Classic and called them “heroes” by marking “a new stage” in the national sport.
“You are heroes of Cuban baseball, you have marked a new stage of results in Cuban baseball, and as we always say, Vamos por Más”, the president told the players at the reception ceremony at Havana’s José Martí air terminal.
In his speech, Díaz-Canel expressed “much respect, admiration and affection” for the 30 players and the management team, which once again made it to the top four in a World Classic, after 17 years (they were runners-up in 2006).
