The leaders of the Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches initialed in the terminal itself a joint statement on issues such as the defense of life, marriage and family and the problem of persecuted Christians in the Middle East, as told Vatican Radio father Hyacinthe Destivelle, the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity.
The meeting between the two leaders is seen as an opportunity for two religious institutions grouping million members worldwide, work towards civilized coexistence and peace; a historic event that brought pride to Cuba to be chosen as the venue.
