Alicia Alonso: Cuban National Ballet has Present and Future Guaranteed

The Prima Ballerina Assoluta told reporters at the Jose Marti International Airport that she was very happy to have been met with honors in Spain for the 70th anniversary of her debut of the Giselle Ballet and the 65th birthday of the Cuban ballet company.

Alonso said that on November 2, the company staged its complete version of Giselle at Seville’s Maestranza Theater, an event that made her recall her first performance of the ballet piece, which turned her into one of the world’s best classic ballerinas of the 20th century.

There is a whole Cuban generation of excellent first dancers and ballerinas, said Alonso, who added that a part of her company will perform in the Basque country, while a season is being prepared for Havana to mark the 65th anniversary of the Cuban National Ballet.
