Delegations from the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP), announced today, June 22, that they have reached agreement on a ceasefire, the laying down of arms, and a definitive end to hostilities.
In a joint communiqué the two sides announced details of the accord which will be presented in Havana tomorrow, with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, and FARC-EP leader Timoleón Jiménez, on hand, in addition to other international figures, including UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon.
Set to participate as well in tomorrow’s announcement are representatives from the peace talks’ guarantor countries, Cuban President Raúl Castro and Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende, the communiqué indicated.
