Cuban Vice President meets US religious leaders

During the meeting held yesterday, Diaz-Canel explained the members of the northern delegation that the role of religious institutions in the development of the Cuban society is broadly defined in community programs and in the accompaniment of the formation in values of the citizens, Granma daily says.

The Cuban official referred to the close relations between the Protestant churches of the United States and those of the Caribbean nation, and emphasized the working ties established with the Cuban Council of Churches.

Rev. John McCullough, executive director of Church World Service, leading the delegation, said that to be on the island has been an honor for him, and expressed his sorrow for the death of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, the newspaper added.

During its stay, started on Monday, January 9th, the delegation also met with Cardinal Jaime Ortega; Charge d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. embassy in Havana, Jeffrey DeLaurentis, and the general director of the United States Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal.
