Obama presents plan for closure of illegal imprisonment in Guantanamo

“The Guantanamo prison goes against our values, and is seen worldwide as a stain on our history,” he stressed the head of the White House, who presented a plan to Congress to dismantle the facility.

He said his former Republican rival John McCain also intended to close a prison that costs too much and just contains less than 100 detainees, which aims to transfer to US territory in the near future.

The United States Department of Defense submitted Tuesday to Congress a plan to close the detention center that government operates in the territory of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba illegally occupied.

This occurs from a new defense policy that prohibits using funds to transfer detainees to US soil, and states that the Pentagon must submit a plan for the closure of the prison.

The controversial installation was created 14 years ago to detain people from different countries suspected of terrorism, and has received international condemnation by the constant violations of human rights occurring there.

When starting his first term, Barack Obama pledged to close the Guantanamo prison, but analysts believe that the process can be extended into next year.
