Born in 1920 in Media Luna, Granma province, she was the first woman incorporated into the rebel army, and spent more than two decades next to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
She was the perfect combination of beauty and transparency, restlessness and passion, tenderness and courage.
Celia was more than revolutionary woman, a flower, of those that remain, even when the spring ends.
She expressed her feeling,; being Member of Parliament, member of the State Council, the Central Committee of the Party, never ceased to behave with grace and peasant accent, of townspeople.
Organized with the names of Norma, Aly, Carmen, Liliana and Caridad, the support base of the incipient guerrilla movement, growing herself with the unstoppable force of that strength and becoming the single and irreplaceable Celia, whose name has immortalized our town.
Celia was also a leading activist of the underground struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Revolutionary leader of the July 26 Movement in the former province of East organized numerous actions against tyranny and served as messenger to the Rebel Army.
She was the first woman to join the armed struggle in the Sierra Maestra. ItShe featured prominently in the creation, in September 1958 of the Mariana Grajales female battalion, which operated in the area of La Plata, in support of the guerrilla rearguard.
After the triumph of the revolution in January 1959 there was no social work guided by the top leadership of the country to which Celia did not devote full surrender.
Her infinite historic leader of the Cuban revolution loyalty, Fidel Castro, characterized this genuine Cuban who looked in his black hair butterfly flower, symbol of purity of the ideals of independence.
