The provincial branch of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), sponsor of the event, is now working on the schedule, of the oldest festival in Cuba dedicated to the Nueva since 1970s of the eighth month, to sing to the homeland, to love and to the fallen martyrs in Villa del Guaso on August 4, 1957.
This new chapter of the Political Song Festival includes the renown Cuban troubadours Liuba María Hevia, Nelson Valdés, Marta Campos, Heidi Igualada, the boys from La Trovuntivitis, from Villa Clara, and local singer-songwriters such as Josué Oliva (El trovador de la ciudad), and the young Annalie López, several times nominated for the Lucas and Cuerda Viva awards.
Many of them, with videos from their homes, will star in the opening and closing concerts, which will be broadcast in real time at night, on the Cubavisión channel, a novelty that moves great expectations, as well as the deployment of the event’s activities by alternative platforms and channels, taking advantage of the potential of multimedia.
To date, members of the Controvando project from Las Tunas have also corroborated their participation during the last days of the event, and it is expected that many more Cuban troubadors will take part in the future edition of the festival that have been attended by Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés, when both were very young.
Parallel to the live transmission on the Internet and TV channel, during the event several local artists will perform in cultural venues open in Guantanamo, according to the post-COVID-19 phase decreed, among them the Casa de la Trova, which will receive up to 50 percent of its public capacity, without neglecting sanitary measures.
