Cuba Denounces US Radio and Television Aggression at the UN

She explained that through illegal radio and television transmissions, the US had been permanently interfering in Cuba’s radio space disseminating programs aimed at inciting the disruption of the constitutional order established by the Cuban people.

Rodriguez also added that an average of one thousand 875 hours a week have been transmitted to the island in 2016 through 25 frequencies from the US.

The Cuban ambassador to the UN stressed that Cuba expects an end to these actions and the lifting of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade that has inflicted damages to the Cuban people with harmful implications in the information and communication areas among other sector s of Cuban society.
 
She believes that the aggressions threatens the region’s efforts in its attempts to establish itself as a zone of peace declared in January of 2014 in Havana during the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
 
The permanent representative before the United Nations reiterated Cuba’s rejection to the use of information technology and communication to violate International Law.
 
She added that the world body must guarantee the use of such technologies with the objectives and principles of the UN Charter and International Law in particular with respect to the sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.
