I also think it would be something like our Mona Lisa, if we compare the significance of a face that causes so many stories worldwide.

Of course ours, and here it is apart of Cuban Gypsy, although it was painted in Paris when the creator felt the concern of changing the system of national artistic expression, is anchored to the identity and rootedness in the history of the nation, because for Victor Manuel, the mulatto always much resembled Roma.

With this piece, the painter of such important works as Landscape (1918), gray Landscape (1927) and Interior Life (1932), define your style almost right in the first third of the twentieth century, becoming a symbol of his entire catalog.

Currently, the Havana creator is distinguished as the founders of modern painting in Cuba, who nevertheless have been at the Academy of San Alejandro disciple of Leopoldo Romañach, at first glance it is felt that his painting moves away from the academicism of teacher, due to modern influences he received during his stay in France, where he met the works of the early Italians and those made by impressionists and post-impressionists.

Back in Cuba, near the end of the second decade of the twentieth century his style and themes were fully forged, painting landscapes and portraits almost always female; all framed by a post-impressionism was going chromatic austerity striking mix of red and green.

In later years he organized personal exhibitions at the University of Havana (1945), the Association of Reporters (1951) and Lex Gallery (1956), exhibiting also and very often in National Meetings.

Already by 1959 a retrospective exhibition of his work, in which many different pieces are returned to enjoy being wrapper of Cuba who once had nothing to do with other painters was prepared.

They mestizo and colonial buildings are weighted, but his work is cataloged more than Cuban universal, as the union of Indian and European has defied time through the oil.

Even for Cubans is a taste and it will remain contemplate the beautiful figure of Tropical Gitana we returned in myth, like the popular Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, and show why not, since pullovers and key chains, although proudly exhibit also, who have received recognition of his outstanding work in Cuban culture.
