Regional leftist parties meet in Lima

Organized by the Peruvian and Patria Roja Communist parties – which are currently being merged – the meeting aims to provide a space to review the experiences of leftist and progressive governments in the region and the struggles of leftist parties not currently in power.

Senior representatives of Peru’s Communist Party, Roberto de la Cruz and Alberto Moreno, highlighted the importance of the event in the struggle to achieve real change in the region, given the failure of the obsolete neoliberal model.

Moreno emphasized the vital importance of the battle of ideas, noting that Fidel Castro will be honored during the event, in celebration of his 90th birthday. Among those set to participate in the meeting are the head of the Communist Party of Cuba’s International Relations Department, José Ramón Balaguer, and former Venezuelan Minister of Economy, Rodrigo Cabezas, representing the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), as well as representatives from Bolivia’s Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) and the Brazilian Workers’ Party
