The high-level segment of the UNGA opens debates this Monday, focused on the pandemic and climate change, as Maldivian diplomat Abdulla Shahid, who chairs the forum, announced.
The aim is to boost actions to recover from the health emergency at a time when much hope is needed, as Shahid expressed in his opening address to the 76th session of UNGA on Tuesday, September 14.
The opening meeting of the high-level segment will host the Sustainable Development Goals Moment to discuss the progress on those 17 goals, just when the world experiences an uneven response to the health crisis and this has an impact on the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
More than 100 heads of State and Government informed that they will participate in person in the UNGA general debate starting on Tuesday, September 21.
Several presidents expect to speak virtually.
